Visiting Researchers and Collaborations

Powdermill Avian Research Center provides exceptional opportunities for visiting researchers and research collaborations. Over the past decades, we’ve collaborated with many professionals and students by gathering data and taking samples, offering our data to outside researchers, and welcomed visiting researchers to PARC. Many of these projects have resulted in peer-reviewed publications.

Central to PARC’s avian research is our long-term bird banding program. Founded in 1961, our banding station has operated year-round, capturing and banding more than 10,000 birds each year. As of the end of 2025, our dataset has more than 860,000 banding records from over 190 species. Our federal and state banding permits grant us permission to collect feather and blood samples, use auxiliary markers, and place tracking devices on birds.

Powdermill Nature Reserve has a molecular lab, office space, and on-site cabin housing that are available to rent at a modest price.

If you would like to collaborate with us by gaining access to our dataset, requesting that we collect data or samples for your project, or by coming to PARC to conduct your research, please reach out to our Bird Banding Program Manager, Annie Lindsay. Those interested will be asked to submit the following for consideration:

  • Research Proposal
  • Data Use Agreement
  • Field Research Request Form (if applicable to your work)
