Saturday, November 30, 2002:
The morning began with temperatures in the 40s under partly cloudy skies,
turning colder and overcast as the day progressed. A strong breeze
was present most of the day. Brian Jones,
Annie
Lindsay, Darlene
Madarish, and Carole
Shannahan helped with the banding today.
While no new species were caught today
(we finished the Fall 2002 season with a still-respectable 110 species),
another milestone was reached today--the banding of the 10,000th
bird for the year. The bird, an adult male Dark-eyed
Junco, was banded 8:40am this morning.

Juncos were the
fourth most abundant species banded at Powdermill this fall, with 348 individuals.
Of the 110 species banded, 15 species had >100 individuals.

Over three inches of snow fell overnight and a light snow continued to
fall during the early morning. Temperatures edged just

out from between the clouds. Darlene
